Hospital Cocooning for Newborns
A number of birthing hospitals in Nevada are now participating in an innovative practice called Cocooning. Pioneered by Renown Hospital in Reno, this practice immunizes the people caring for a newborn: mom and dad, nurses and doctors against Pertussis and (seasonally) Influenza. By immunizing the adults surrounding newborns, these babies are protected from diseases with serious or fatal consequences.
"Our Cocooning Project gives each baby born at Renown Regional, the best chance at staying healthy," said Dana Dye, Chief Nursing Officer, Renown Health and Chief Operating Officer, Renown Regional Medical Center.
