Outstanding Providers
Each year, we recognize outstanding community partners and providers through our Silver Syringe Awards. Highlighted here are a few of our awardees from 2009 and providers with exceptional immunization rates in their practices.
Immunization Rate of 80% or Higher for 2 Year Olds
These rates are based on the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention standardized assessment for the percentage of children that are up-to-date with their scheduled immunizations by age 2. The Nevada doctors' offices and clinics recognized here definitely deserve celebrating for reaching and exceeding 80% in their respective practices.

Outstanding Rural Partner - Frontier and Rural Public Health Program
Through a partnership with the Northern Nevada Immunization Coalition, Walmart, and the State of Nevada Immunization Program 317 funding; FaRH and additional rural partners were able to hold clinics at over 15 rural locations, immunizing over 700 children during Nevada Infant Immunization Week. This dedication saved many rural families from having to drive hours for immunizations, brought many children up-to-date in plenty of time for school and contributed to raising our state's immunization rates by entering all vaccines adminstered in Nevada WebIZ.
Outstanding Community Partner - AMERIGROUP
They have been helping Nevada families enrolled in Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance (SCHIP) since February, but in that short time have become an integral immunization partner throughout the state. From serving on both regional coalition community boards to supporting community events such as Nevada Infant Immunization Week and Back to School Health Fairs, the AMERIGROUP staff are committed to providing needed resources and keeping Nevada healthy.
Outstanding Physician Champion - Trudy Larson, MD
Dr. Trudy Larson serves as Nevada's expert on many immunization topics from Rotavirus to pertussis to HPV and presents to health care providers across our state. From past conferences to this year's Summit - Dr. Larson has served as our CME Course Director and is a key supporter and presenter in updating Nevada's immunization requirements. She has been a leader on numerous immunization related committees and with the coalitions over the years.
National Innovation in Immunizations - Kathie Lloyd, MSN, RN, CNM, CLE, LCCE
While a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Renown, Kathie spearheaded the first "cocooning program" in our nation - a hospital based program to immunize parents of newborns with Tdap essentially to protect or "cocoon" a newborn baby from whooping cough until they are old enough to be vaccinated against the disease. Since then, Kathie has worked with hospitals throughout Nevada, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific, even traveling to Alaska, to provide them with the tools and opportunities to start their own cocooning program.
